Description: XCO Race
3 start plus 8 laps, 1.36h race time
11th place, 2.25min off winner Nino Schurter
It was my first cross country race since the World Cup final in Val d’Isère, which is already a month ago.
My off the line start was good, but then I sucked on the horse track laps. Instead of putting my arms out I was too much on the brake. No wonder I ended up in a crash leaving the horse track. The front group at that time was gone a long time ago, but I still kept on fighting together with Mat Flückiger alias Footlicker. The course basically was flat out on asphalt, one short climb-descent-windy flat single track back to the horse stadium. Almost like a road race on a mountain bike, although you had to be very careful not hitting a tree in the fast single tracks…
With one lap to go Footlicker and I we just caught the second group. So we ended up sprinting for 7th place at the finish, which I obviously did not win.
All in all I was very happy with my race feelings, although not with my ranking at all, but I think I am on good track for world champs in two weeks.
