I was really looking forward to this stage race again, but I knew it is going to be hard! I was not full recovered from the Swiss Bike Trophy. I could feel it very well on the first climb during the first stage. I had to do a little mental talking, because I knew the first stage is the most important. I wanted the leaders jersey so bad, because defending is so much easier then trying to get it off a other racer. The pressure was on on the last climb and I raced up there as hard as I could. Finally I dropped David George and increased the lead by over one minute during the last 10kms. This was more then half of the pay check for winning the overall.
I added more time safety on day two where I went cross country style during the last 4kms. I increased my overall lead by over 2min. This was necessary though, since the rain made the last stage difficult on the last climb, or at least thats how it felt to me. I lost a few seconds over the top. The following downhill to the finish felt like surreal. I hardly could not see anything because without glasses I had to almost close my eyes, and with glasses I could not see because they got so dirty. I decided to take it “normal” down there and bringing my overall victory safe home.

We had some incredible hotels, but unfortunately the daily price giving has been always at dinner time. So for most of the time I ate soggy pasta there instead dining and wine’ing in the hotel.
