Description: Marathon Stage Race

8 Stages, total of 676km and 20’200m of climbing
One stage win, fifth overall

I partnered up with my South African Specialized mate Max Knox to race over the alps. And yes there was a lot of climbing to do…. I have never raced for 1.5h straight up a mountain like on day three. On that climb I promise I did not free wheel for one second, but as on many of those uphills we got rewarded with a an incredible view and that was worth it. Unfortunately often we rode down some rough or slippery rocky roads. Then I was almost regretting not being out a freeride trip and finding my own cool single trail.

We were not competitive enough to get over the big mountains with the best teams, but the sprint finish win in Brixen was awesome, plus being with the whole team on the road was great too. I only had to pedal, sleep and eat. Thanks to the team for making it happen, and for all the fun times next to the heavy legs too!

By the way my favorite parts were the Italian Dolomites. A region I did not know before. It was just a big wooow to see this rocky, cliffy mountains.

All in all I think it will help me for the rest of the season. The upcoming marathon classics include a lot of climbing as well, but at least not for 8 days straight. Next stop Colorado for Leadville 100!
