World Cup Pietermaritzburg, RSA

Date: 17.03.2012

Description: XCO Qualification Race for Olympics

6 laps, 1.35h racing time
15th place, 4.48min off winner Nino Schurter

I felt good through the whole week, but I also knew this is going to be my first cross country race which is held even a month earlier then last year.

I was hoping for top 8, but I knew this are more hopes. It all depended on a good start for me, but that did not happen. I came off the line not perfectly, plus there was a almost crash in front of me too. I had to restart in the first single trail back in the fifties. It is very hard to get into a race spirit like this, especially when you see the top guys pinning it up the climb and you are queueing in line. Anyway I am happy to still make it into the top 15. That means second row for the next World Cup in Belgium.

Burry rode superb in his home grand prix. Second place! It must be his best season start ever! I think I will be in the hurt box for the Cape-Epic prologue, racing together with him…
I am already super excited for the Cape-Epic, especially with Todd Wells and Max Knox riding in the colors we are double the force, especially also in talking after the races. I am sure it is going to be great fun!

Felt sorry for Todd who could not start! He hurt his foot in a crash practicing on the course. We pushed him in a food trolley to our daily mall dinners and back though!
